This policy explains what data Luna, the app for tracking your menstrual cycle, handles, where it’s stored and what control you have over it. The controller is Luna, reachable at support@lunaperiod.app.

1. Data you handle in Luna

Luna only handles the data you enter or authorize. All of it is stored on your iPhone.

Data What it’s used for Where it’s stored
Name you choose during the initial setup Addressing you inside the app Your iPhone
Periods: start and end dates, length Calculating your cycle, your phases and your next period Your iPhone
Daily log: flow, spotting, symptoms, mood, cravings, ovulation test, glasses of water and notes Tailoring tips and predictions Your iPhone
Contraceptive: method, day 1 and reminder time Scheduling your reminders Your iPhone
Preferences: sports, active days, period kit and notifications Personalizing content Your iPhone
Apple Health, read-only and only if you allow it: sleep, wrist temperature and exercise minutes Adjusting tips and detecting ovulation Read on your iPhone and never leave it

With this data Luna calculates, on your iPhone, your phases, your next period, your estimated ovulation and today’s fertility with your fertile days. Those calculations never leave the device either.

Luna never writes to Apple Health. You can revoke access in Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices.

2. Data Luna doesn’t collect

  • Email, phone number or any sign-up data: Luna works without an account.
  • Location, contacts, photos or calendar.
  • Payment data: the Luna Plus subscription is charged by Apple through the App Store. Luna only knows whether it’s active.
  • Advertising or tracking identifiers.
  • Usage data or analytics: Luna doesn’t include any measurement or advertising tools. Only if you’ve turned on sharing with app developers in iOS does Apple give us aggregated crash and usage reports that don’t identify you.

Luna doesn’t sell or share your data with anyone.

3. Chat with Luna

The chat is answered by Apple Intelligence’s language model, which runs on your own iPhone. To answer, it receives your phase, your cycle day, the days until your next period and your moods from the last 7 days. It doesn’t receive your name or your notes. The conversation isn’t sent to any server and is deleted when you close the chat.

4. Notifications, widgets and Face ID

  • Contraceptive, period kit and routine reminders are scheduled on your iPhone.
  • Widgets show a countdown that’s already calculated, never your logs.
  • Face ID lock is handled by iOS. Luna doesn’t access your biometric data.

5. What you share with your partner

Sharing with your partner is optional and it’s the only thing Luna stores outside your iPhone. If you invite them from your profile, Luna saves a record in your private iCloud that your partner can see through an iCloud link.

  • Your partner sees your name and, depending on what you choose in your profile, your latest mood and the symptoms from your last day with symptoms.
  • By default they see your mood and not your symptoms. You decide what’s shared and can change it at any time.
  • Your partner never sees your cycle, your periods or your notes.
  • What you share stops showing after 3 days if you don’t update it.
  • Your partner can send you gestures: one of four fixed phrases, up to 5 a day, signed with their name.

This data is stored in iCloud, an Apple service, inside your account. The owner of Luna has no servers of its own and can’t read it. You can stop sharing at any time from your profile.

If you’re the partner, Luna handles this data about you: your iCloud account name, which she sees in her profile and on your gestures, and the gestures you send, which are stored in the shared area of her iCloud so they reach her. No other data is requested from you. You can leave partner mode whenever you want: you stop taking part and what was stored on your iPhone is deleted.

6. Report for your doctor

From Luna you can create a cycle report as a PDF. It includes your name, the period it covers, the export date, your average cycle and period length, how much they vary and your latest cycles.

The report is generated on your iPhone and Luna doesn’t send it to anyone. It only leaves the device if you share it from the iOS share sheet, and from then on it’s handled by whoever receives it and by the app you use to send it.

7. Third-party services

Luna only uses Apple services: iCloud (CloudKit) for the shared moon, the Apple Push Notification service to notify your partner and you, Apple Health, on-device Apple Intelligence and the App Store for the Luna Plus subscription. Apple’s processing is governed by its privacy policy. Apple may store iCloud data on servers outside the European Economic Area, with the safeguards described in that policy. Luna doesn’t integrate any other provider.

8. Retention and deletion

Your data is kept on your iPhone until you delete it.

  • Profile > Delete all data removes your periods, your logs and your profile. It can’t be undone.
  • Uninstalling Luna removes the data stored on the iPhone.
  • Stopping sharing with your partner removes the shared record from your iCloud.

Your data may be included in your iPhone backups if you have them turned on. Those backups are managed by Apple with your account.

9. Your rights

All users

  • Access all your data directly from the app.
  • Delete all your data from Profile > Delete all data or by uninstalling the app.

EU users (GDPR)

  • The rights of access, rectification, erasure and portability apply.
  • Since all your data is stored on your iPhone, you have full control.

California users (CCPA)

  • Luna doesn’t sell personal information.
  • The rights to know and to delete are exercised from the controls in the app.

Health data in the US

  • Luna treats your cycle, symptoms and Apple Health data as consumer health data. It stays on your iPhone, isn’t sold and isn’t shared with anyone except what you choose to share with your partner.

10. Children

Luna is not intended for children under 14. Anyone under that age needs permission from a parent or guardian to use it.

11. Changes to this policy

If the policy changes, the new version will be published here with its date. If the change affects what data leaves your iPhone, Luna will let you know inside the app before applying it.
